To enroll in Original Medicare, you’ll visit Medicare.gov.

You Initial Enrollment Period lasts 7 months, starting 3 months prior to your 65th birthday and 3 months following your 65th birthday. That means you can start the enrollment process more than 90 days before you turn 65 years old. We recommend enrolling in Original Medicare as soon as you are eligible. It takes the Social Security office a few weeks to send you your new Medicare Number and you’ll need that to enroll in Supplement Insurance or Advantage Plans.
