Blue Shield and OODA are integrating insurance data to their doctors

October 1, 2018

Blue Shield of California and OODA Health, a San Francisco-based technology startup, will collaborate to build a new, cloud-based software platform to provide real-time claims payments to health care providers immediately after they deliver care to patients.

There is currently a disconnect from the office administrator and the insurance team.  Because any given office will accept 20+ insurance carriers, it saves time to verify the co-pay and process the payments / reimbursements at a later time.

Blue Shield has been making huge steps towards integrating the information from the office and insurance.  Over the past few years, Blue Shield has been taking a note from Kaiser Permanente and mimicking some of their technologies.  Because Kaiser doctors and Kaiser facilities are all managed by the same group that handles Kaiser insurance, that information is at your fingertips when you walk into one of their facilities.

Blue Shield has a long ways to go.  However, any step towards a technology driven insurance provider is encouraged and needed.
