Welcome back to the HealthyMarks Education Series. Let’s consider you are young and healthy. Over the last few years you have opted to take one of the least expensive insurance plans available because you suspect you’ll continue to be healthy and you don’t want to pay too much for health insurance.

So, at what point should you reconsider your health insurance options and enroll in a more robust plan?

The perfect time to reevaluate your health insurance strategy is when you’re expecting or you’re expecting to be expecting. Having a baby is a very expensive ordeal. You’ll have extended doctor visits leading up to the birth and you can expect the birth to cost about $10,000 minimum. With a high deductible health insurance plan you’ll be paying for probably about $7000 of that.

This is the best time to move from a Silver plan or a Bronze plan to a Gold Plan with a $0 deductible. This $0 deductible is important because you want your health insurance to kick in right away as opposed to having to pay it out of your own pocket before your insurance takes over.

There are a lot of times when an inexpensive Bronze plan is the best for someone young and healthy. Regardless make sure you have a better health insurance plan when you know you have a lot of medical costs coming up in the future. This can be a pregnancy or even a surgery that you have been putting off.

If you need any help thinking about your health insurance strategy, I’d be happy to be a resource. My name is Keaton the owner and HealthyMarks Insurance Services thanks for taking a minute to learn a little bit about what we do.
