Aetna and CVS have shown their strategy as we approach the merger of these two Healthcare behemoths.
Aetna reported that it has added 250,000 new customers to its Medicare Advantage plans. These plans have become more and more popular among the senior community as their benefits are much more valuable compared to those who have traditional Medicare. Aetna ended the first quarter of 2018 with 1.7 million seniors on its Medicare Advantage plan which is the fastest-growing business for the insurance company.
Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini said, "We are pleased with our strong start to the year and remain focused on our business priorities as we plan for our projected combination with CVS Health in the second half of 2018."
Because the baby boomers are the fastest growing market, Aetna has strong competition with most of the insurance providers in California.
Only time will tell whether the CVS Aetna merger contributes to their Medicare success.
