Why Choose Anthem Blue Cross for Medicare in San Diego

Read 3 top reasons to choose Anthem Blue Cross for Medicare. Contact us and we will help you decide if this is the right plan for you. Don’t do it alone, we can help!

1. Plan F and Plan F Innovative

Only with Anthem can you sign up for the retired Supplement Insurance – Plan F. This plan was retired at the end of 2019 and it isn’t available to people now turning 65 or people turning 65 in the future. However, for those who qualify for Plan F, and for those who turned 65 before 2020, Anthem is the only carrier still offering it.

Plan F is a great option for those of you who turned 65 before 2020 and have not yet enrolled in a Supplement plan. For those of you who have continued your insurance under your employer, Anthem may be the best Medicare carrier for you.

2. Robust Additional Benefits with “Anthem Extra”

When signing up for your Anthem Supplement Insurance, you’ll have the ability to add additional benefits to your plan for only a small additional fee. You’ll have tons of plans to choose from so you’ll be able to pair all your plans in one place.

Supplement plans have the same plan design no matter which carrier you select. This means the additional benefits become a major factor in selecting your insurance carrier.

3. Multiple Supplement and Advantage Options

Anthem Blue Cross is a quality insurance carrier with a reputation for providing quality care for its insured. You will have multiple plans to choose from and you’ll have a carrier known for covering your medical needs at the right price.

Advantage plans offer access to only a specific network of doctors. It is important to study the plan benefits and the plan pricing. It is just as important to verify you will be able to visit the doctors that matter most to you.

“I recently turned 65 and was in need of help evaluating Medicare. Before our enrollment meeting, I had saved and never looked at this stack of papers I received in the mail from multiple insurance companies. It was overwhelming and not helpful. Keaton and Alexa visited me at my home and changed the situation completely. I was able to quickly wrap my head around my Medicare options and make a selection. Thanks for your help!”

Supplement Insurance Plan F and Innovative F

New to Medicare? Turned 65 a few years ago? — Enroll in Plan F or Innovative F and SAVE $240! Only with Anthem Blue Cross can you enroll in Plan F which was discontinued in 2019. If you turned 65 before 2020 and you’ve been enrolled in a qualifying group insurance policy, Anthem is the best option for you to enroll in a Plan F or Innovative F.

Even better, receive $20 off your monthly premium for the first 12 months of your policy if you enroll in Plan F.

Plan F is the best Supplement Insurance option because your Part B deductible is reduced to $0. You’ll receive care without paying a deductible for medically-necessary services like doctors’ services and tests, outpatient care, home health services.

Supplement Insurance Plans G and N

Although Anthem Blue Cross does not offer all of the Supplement Insurance plans available it does offer the most popular ones. Since Plan F is no longer available, Plan G has become the most popular choice for those turning 65 in 2021. Plan N is also popular because it too offers great coverage with a low deductible at foreign travel protection.

The major difference between Plan G and Plan N is that Plan G covers Part B “Excess Charges”. A doctor who doesn’t accept assignment may charge you up to 15 percent more than the Medicare-approved amount.

With Plan N, Medicare pays 80 percent, then you receive a bill for the remaining 20 percent. With Plan G, Medicare covers 100% of those costs.

Advantage Plans

Anthem Blue Cross offers a handful of HMO Advantage plans that are well priced for their robust benefits. As with all Advantage Plans, your medical and prescription drug coverage will be bundled into a single plan and a single premium. You’ll have additional benefits like dental and vision insurance bundled on top of your traditional coverage.

These plans provide access to over 60 major medical facilities in San Diego including some Scripps facilities, Palomar Medical Center, and Scripps Memorial, and Scripps Green.

These plans have a limited number of doctors accepting them, so you’ll want to ask HealthyMarks to make sure your primary care physician and the important specialists you visit will accept your plan

Additional Benefits for Anthem Medicare Enrollees

Additional benefits are available to those who enroll in Medicare. These include worldwide coverage, SilverSneakers, and more! Not all plans have these benefits, but HealthyMarks can help you evaluate your options and enroll in the best ones.

  • 4. Should I stick with my Large Group Employer health insurance policy or switch to Medicare?

Large Group Employers have access to health insurance plans that the rest of us do not. Many of the large group plans have what is called “Composite Rating.” Or in other words, these plans do not get more expensive when you get older. You will pay the same as a younger employee.

Because of this, some of these large group employer plans are competitive with the Medicare plans in San Diego.

You should evaluate both and select the better insurance plan.

  • 5. Should I still switch to Medicare even if my family is covered by my insurance plan?

Having a spouse as a dependent on your group insurance plan may impact whether or not you switch to Medicare. When you enroll in Medicare, your spouse can then enroll in his/her own individual market health insurance plan because losing insurance is a “qualifying event” to switch to a new plan. However, maybe your spouse doesn’t want to make that switch or your employer is contributing towards both you and your dependent’s insurance premiums. In this scenario, consider speaking with a HealthyMarks professional for a Plan Evaluation.

You should evaluate both options and select the better option for you and your family.

  • 6. Should I stick with my group health insurance policy or should I switch to Medicare?

Typically, Medicare pricing is much better than what is available to employees through their work. Medicare plans are generally much less expensive because the government is helping pay the monthly premium. Furthermore, these Medicare plans are very well received by the members who enroll in them. Members often experience less out of pocket expenses when on Medicare.

You should evaluate both options and select the better insurance plan.
