Kaiser Permanente offers Medicare Advantage plans that deliver more value than Original Medicare

Original Medicare doesn’t cover all expenses.

Original Medicare (Parts A and B together) only covers about 80% of hospital and medical expenses. You might have to pay the remaining 20% out of pocket and purchase a stand-alone prescription drug plan. With Kaiser Permanente’s Medicare Advantage plans, you get Parts A and B, plus Part D prescription drug coverage, and additional optional benefits, such as vision, dental, and hearing.

Kaiser Permanente offers hospital care, medical services, and prescription drug coverage, all with the convenience of one plan.

Ways

5 ways Kaiser can simplify your Medicare health plan coverage:

1. Peace of mind: You’ll have $0 copays for preventive care and a limit on your annual out-of-pocket expenses. You will always feel comfortable getting routine care without worrying about your portion of the costs.

2. Simplicity: Hospital care, medical services, and prescription drug coverage are all included in one plan. Kaiser offers a solution for all of your medical needs under one insurance and medical provider.

3. Choice: Choose the doctor who’s right for you. All of our available doctors and specialists are welcome to Kaiser Medicare health plan members.

4. Convenience: Access care your way with doctor visits by phone, email, or video. Kaiser understands that access to care can be more important than anything because easy access to care prevents chronic illness.

5. Care: Your doctors, nurses, and specialists work together to support your total health and well-being. Kaiser as an organization has built a reputaiton for caring about each individual’s health and progress.

  • 4. Should I stick with my Large Group Employer health insurance policy or switch to Medicare?

Large Group Employers have access to health insurance plans that the rest of us do not. Many of the large group plans have what is called “Composite Rating.” Or in other words, these plans do not get more expensive when you get older. You will pay the same as a younger employee.

Because of this, some of these large group employer plans are competitive with the Medicare plans in San Diego.

You should evaluate both and select the better insurance plan.

  • 5. Should I still switch to Medicare even if my family is covered by my insurance plan?

Having a spouse as a dependent on your group insurance plan may impact whether or not you switch to Medicare. When you enroll in Medicare, your spouse can then enroll in his/her own individual market health insurance plan because losing insurance is a “qualifying event” to switch to a new plan. However, maybe your spouse doesn’t want to make that switch or your employer is contributing towards both you and your dependent’s insurance premiums. In this scenario, consider speaking with a HealthyMarks professional for a Plan Evaluation.

You should evaluate both options and select the better option for you and your family.
